From sit to fit -  running through the woods, 100 squat Sunday, intro to kettlebells and healthi(er) eating! So over the past couple of weeks things have been pretty hectic and I've been struggling with a lingering cold, but I've managed to get out there a handful of times and I've now been introduced to kettlebells! Late February saw some unseasonably w arm weather so I decided to take advantage of this and get out there for what should have been a 5km run. I had plans to meet some of the ladies for a run round Heaton Park. Only went and slept in!! Sunday morning fail!! For an hour after I got up I procrastinated doing ANYTHING but think about going for a run on my own to get my exercise in. Even got into my running stuff and thought - hmm this is comfy just to chill out & nap in today! It took a couple of friends and a search for motivational quotes (yes really) to get my ass outside. So glad I did - absolutely gorgeous weather that lifted every par

Firstly - apologies if the formatting of this blog looks horrendous - I can't work out how to fix it as looks okay until I publish so please persevere and I'll do better next time!! Doesn't time fly when you're having fun on the run! Into week 2 of my training for the Great Manchester 10k in May and this week has seen the 100 day countdown for it begin! It's getting real now and therefore I've stepped up in my endeavour to stick to the training plan I've been given. If you remember from my last blog, life got in the way of my training, so this week I was determined to reset and get running, without dwelling on last week. Besides, I'm approaching this opportunity as a chance to change my lifestyle, not just as a means to reach the 19th May! So - to the plan on how I was going to meet my training requirements this week. I'm lucky enough to work for a company that encourages flexible working, so I arranged to work from home on Wednesday. There ar

So...Saturday 26th January was our first run coaching session with the wonderful Aimi Barton. I've had a couple of personal trainers in my life and I have to say Aimi was the most down to earth and realistic of them all. I didn't feel pressured or as if I was too unfit to be there (or told I shouldn't have eaten biscuits prior to a training session which happened to me in Sydney. To be fair that was probably a pretty good indication you need a personal trainer!). At one point in the warm up she was contemplating being nice and not making us do lunges and I found myself saying yeah let's do lunges 😳. It was one of those moments that words come out of your mouth before you've really realised what you've said. It happens to me quite a lot but I couldn't take it back so we did lunges! Focus was to get a 90 degree angle in the back leg. Pretty pleased with that! After the warm up Aimi took us through the theory of the various energy zones and how each p

From sit to fit - who am I and what am I doing here?

Hi all and welcome to my blog which will honestly chronicle my journey from sit to fit! At the end of 2018, a local personal training team in Manchester, Spark Fitness (www.sparkfitness.co.uk) set out on a search to find a Winter/Spring Spark Plod Ambassador. From the many that applied I was one of the lucky two voted to take part. Over the next few months, I will work with Spark Fitness towards my Spring racing goal - the Great Manchester 10k in May 2019! I've never done anything like this before so am very excited to get started. However, as my blog name suggests, I am a reluctant runner and want to give an honest and realistic take on this journey from spending most time sitting at desk on my laptop, to getting myself moving and becoming fitter both physically and mentally. So let's get started. Spark Fitness posed some introductory questions to me to see how I was feeling ahead of the first personal training session! During your time as spark plod amb
